PowerPoints

Colorado students, have you been downloading and viewing the Waseda students' PowerPoints? There are some really good ones. The Materialism PowerPoints in particular have a lot of photos and details.

If you have some comments, please post them here.

(I'm not going to link the page to this blog because I don't want them to be open to the world, but Shimizu-sensei can tell you the URL if you don't have it.)

The Quest for Materialism

This is from Vicky, the teacher at Waseda.

The Quest for Materialism is my favorite Colorado video of all the ones I've seen in the years Shimizu-sensei and I have been organizing this exchange. Great work!

Any comments from Waseda students about this video?

Friendship in Japan and America

Videos, PowerPoints, and more...

The Colorado students' videos about Family and School have arrived, and we'll start watching them in class today. The Waseda students' projects should be finished soon.
Check here for updated information about their progress.

Please post your comments about the projects here.

Chapter 5 - Materialism

Were you a material child? Write about it here.

Skype

Maybe some of the students in these classes would like to get in touch with each other using Skype. Shimizu-sensei and I can collect the names and Skype numbers of interested students and send them by e-mail. (It's better not to post personal details on this blog).

As for possible times to do it, Tokyo and Boulder are 16 hours different: 8 a.m. in Boulder is 12 midnight in Tokyo. Students keep strange schedules, so I won't even try to imagine what times you would all prefer, but I can recommend a good web site. If you click on this link to the World Clock Meeting Planner, you can see how times in Colorado (listed as Denver, the nearest big city to Boulder) correspond to times in Tokyo.

School

What do you all think about Schools in Japan and America? Can anyone post their school rules here?

Questions and Observations about American, Japanese, Korean and Chinese Society in General

We'll be starting a discussion item for each major topic of the book (Family, School, Materialism, Friendship and Sexuality), but this place is for any question or comment that doesn't fit into any of those. Please add your comments about anything you'd like to discuss.

Chapter 3 - Family

After you all read Chapter 3 of White's book, you'll be writing essays on your individual blogs, but THIS part of the class blog can be used for questions and comments which you'd like everyone to see. What do you think about White's book? What questions do you have for the students at Waseda or Colorado?

Problems with Browsers

Here at Waseda, some students are having a problem with viewing the blogs when they use the Internet Explorer browsing software. Some students also had this problem last year, but I don't know why. It may be a problem with the Security settings.

Colorado students, are you having any trouble when using Internet Explorer?

If you are having trouble, please download and use either Netscape or Firefox. They are both free. Netscape may already be installed in your computer.

This is everyone I got a link from--if you're not on the list, but you're in section two, email me and let me know your blog address. (Or if I spelled your name wrong or whatnot.) Also if you need help, I did make a tutorial website you can look at and see if that helps, otherwise, email, of course.
